Ten Phrases I Learned from Mom

Updated on June 6, 2012

Get Out of the Refrigerator..I pretty much say this on a daily basis. Not just to my 6 year old but my 17 year old son is the world's worst about staring into the fridge. I guess he's hoping that whatever he's looking for will just appear.

I Hope You have a child just like you. Well I must say this particular wish came true and now I happily pass this wish onto my own kids.

Stop slamming the door..Why is it that anyone under the age of 21 doesn't know how to shut a door without trying to slam it off the hinges.

Shut up I can's see..I know that's odd but for some reason my mother can't use two senses at once and I obviously inherited that from her. I also once turned the radio down in the car cause I thought I smelled something strange. I guess the music distracted my nose, not sure why that is.

Were you raised in a barn? No I wasn't and neither were my kids but you can't tell by the way they act.

How many times do I have to tell you? Obviously until you lose your voice.

Because I said so. The best parent comeback of all time. Sometimes it's the only thing you can come up with and it pretty much ends the discussion. Although, it is only the beginning of the pouting.

Get your finger out of your nose. I have used this one many times when my two oldest were little. Sometimes this phrase may vary by substituting nose with mouth, ear, or occasionally butt.

My light bill is gonna be sky high. I always thought that was a funny saying until my kids started leaving the lights on in every room, leaving the tv and other electronics on at night, and leaving the door open with the a/c on. Now I understand because my light bill is sky high.

Seems like only yesterday. Now this is true. Everyone has heard it and understands it. It does seem like only yesterday that I was the kid listening to her "crazy" mom. Now I am the crazy mom.

Mother's Day

I plan to spend this Mother's Day with my kids and enjoying my time with them. I also plan to call my mom and send her atleast a little something to let her know how much I love her and how grateful I am for her love, support, and "crazy" influence. I hope everyone else who's lucky enough to still have their mom with them will do the same. Happy Mother's Day to all.
