10 Vintage Toys that Never Go Out of Style

Updated on August 13, 2012

Play Time

Today, kids have so many choices when it comes to toys that they could pretty much have a different toy everyday if parents were to provide them, that is. No doubt even the wealthiest parents could go broke keeping up with the newest products available. But the truth is, most children could have endless play time options with just a few of the old standby toys that have been around for ages. I have found with my own children that some toys are timeless. I have listed ten of my favorites.

Frisbee

This is a toy you can carry anywhere. It has no age limit and it requires you to get moving. I've seen these at the dollar store, so they are really affordable. Cheap, easy, and fun.

Hula Hoop

I love to watch kids play with a hula hoop, it can get pretty hilarious. I even join in to let the kids laugh at me for a little while.

Jump Rope

One child or ten, it doesn'tmatter. Jumping rope is a great form of exercise that kids actually enjoy. They can jump by themselves with a rope or take turns jumping while two turn the rope (doesn't that bring back school plyground memories?).

Bike

No matter how old your child gets, they love to ride their bikes. My six year old and my 17 year old ride a bike. This is actually one of the few activities that my oldest son enjoys that doesn't require him holding an xbox controller.

Ball

Can you say versatile? Baseball, basketball, beachball, rubberball, etc. There are so many options here that I can't even begin to name them all but you get the point.

Cards

Card games are an excellent rainy day activity. It offers an opportunity for the whole family to play and with one deck of cards, you can play a variety of different games.

Building Blocks

From lettered toddler blocks to legos, kids love to build things. It allows them to use their imagination while improving motor skills.

Crayons

Most kids enjoy drawing pictures and coloring . It can also be a source of some great art work for your fridge

Water Pistol

When it gets hot outside, water pistols are a fun way to keep cool. You can buy these little buggers several to a pack at most department stores for just a few dollars.

Play Doh

Kids can get pretty creative with a pile of dough. Even though tiny hands may create some strange looking globs, to them they are masterpieces and that's what matters
